Medicines Australia has told the Senate inquiry into manufacturing that the pandemic has caused countries around the world to reassess the importance of the life sciences industry, and the race is on to secure national sovereignty of medications.
"One thing that is obvious is that right now there is a global recalibration," Independent Chair of Medicines Australia, Dr Anna Lavelle, told the inquiry. "The pandemic has raised these questions in many countries, and there are many conversations taking place all around the world around sovereign risk mitigation and about recalibration in the life science area."
