Opening Australia's international borders while highly transmissible strains of Covid - such as Delta - are circulating in the local community or overseas could lead to a major surge in cases and hospitalisations, according to new modelling by the UNSW.
The peer-reviewed research, published in the Medical Journal of Australia, examined eight scenarios with high or low Covid transmissibility, vaccine rollout speed and scale of border reopening.
