The Morrison government has been slammed for failing advanced manufacturing in Australia - with recent announcements of closures of pharmaceutical plants by Pfizer and GSK threatening to create a skills vacuum, the trade union movement has warned.
According to the United Workers Union, despite the sector being a designated priority industry and much talk over the importance of national sovereignty when it comes to vaccine and medicine manufacture, multinational pharmaceutical companies are closing plants based in Australia and the federal government is dragging its heels in proceeding with its much-vaunted proposed mRNA manufacturing facility.
