Hunt creates PBS listing first

Posted 30 April 2021 AM

In a move that will please a small group of patients with rare forms of epilepsy but disappoint thousands of severe migraine sufferers, Health Minister Greg Hunt has announced the PBS listing from 1 May of Australia's first subsidised cannabis based drug, Epidyolex.

The drug is among seven identified by Pharma in Focus as candidates for PBS listing this month. One other, Asacol, has had a change to listing in ulcerative colitis. Both drugs are sponsored by Chiesi, meaning that no big pharmas had success this time around.
