Pharmacists will be more easily able to swap medicines declared by the TGA to be in 'serious scarcity' for other medicines without first referring to the prescriber under new federal legislation.
The legislation will make it easier for pharmacists to substitute available medicines for drugs such as antidepressant sertraline and blood pressure medication olmesartan and others the TGA has declared to be in seriously short supply.
