Labor to push meds reform

"We still have twentieth century systems for registering and subsidising medicines - systems that simply don't match the twenty-first century of personalised medicine," Labor's health spokesperson, Chris Bowen, has said in replying to the health measures in last week's Federal budget.

Bowen welcomed the "extension of the Strategic Agreement" that Health Minister Greg Hunt said he and Medicines Australia were working on but said: "At this stage the Government has only agreed to do what it already does - to list new medicines within the average fiscal envelope of recent years."
