Consult fall sparks future fears

Posted 15 September 2020

Medicines Australia has backed a new campaign called Don't Wait Mate which urges Australians to seek medical help after disturbing new figures revealed face-to-face medical consultations and testing for life-threatening diseases had plummetted by as much as 60 per cent due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the reluctance to seek testing peaked during the months of April and May, by June many patients had not returned to doctors' rooms. According to research by the Australian College of General Practitoners (RACGP), face-to-face consultations were still down by 24 per cent this June compared to a year ago.
